5 Best San Francisco Bars for Couples
So, it’s official. You’ve become part of a couple. You’ve changed your Facebook status and most of the time it’s great. You’ve got a built-in date to events, you’ve got someone to share the romance of San Francisco with and you know that you’re not going home solo at the end of the night.
But with so many of San Francisco’s bars designed for the many singles in the city, where do you go out when you’re part of a couple? Perhaps you need a romantic spot for a quiet date or special celebration. Maybe you need a great night out on the town to rekindle the spark that made you want each other in the first place. Or maybe you need something more risqué to keep that relationship going in San Francisco style.
The city may love its singles but there are places for you and your new partner too. Here are five of the best options:
1. Bliss Bar, 4026 24th St. (@ Noe St.) Noe Valley 415.826.6200
Yes, it’s such a disgustingly cheesy name that I hesitate to include it on the couples list but it’s just too perfect to leave it off. Whether it’s early in the relationship when the romance is just getting going or later on when you need to find it again, Bliss is the spot for you to enjoy together as a couple. The fireplace alone is nice but the backroom hot tubs are, well, blissful. And the name isn’t any cheesier than those goofy looks you two keep giving each other in the corner anyway!
2. Chapeau!, 1408 Clement St. (@ 15th St.) Richmond 415.750.9787
Maybe you aren’t quite in hot tub stage yet. First of all, get over yourself. This is San Francisco. But then indulge your sweeter side with a romantic dinner and drinks at the restaurant with the name that requires an exclamation mark. It’s French, what’s better for couples than that? There are lots of great French restaurants in the city but the drinks here are among the best.
3. Medjool Restaurant / Lounge, 2522 Mission St. (@ 22nd St.) The Mission 415.550.9055
People leave their heart in San Francisco for a million reasons, not the least of which is the beauty of the views. The rooftop lounge at Medjool makes for a perfect date where you can fall in love with the city (and your better half) all over again. Enjoy it together!
4. Milk, 1840 Haight St. (@ Stanyan St.) The Haight 415.387.6455
Sometimes what a couple really needs isn’t romance but action. Dancing is one of the hottest things that you used to do back when you were still single and it can be just as hot with your hottie. Milk’s the place for grinding on each other on the dance floor and making out like you used to.
5. Bondage-A-Go-Go, 520 4th St. (@ Bryant St.) SoMA 415.495.6620
In a city as open as this one, it’s rare that there are couples that just want to be alone together all of the time. This bondage bar opens up the opportunity to meet other folks who may want to join you for the evening. And even if you keep the action between the two of you, the risqué behavior condoned by the club can make your love life a lot hotter. It’s actually not an all-time bar; it’s the Wednesday Night bar at the Glas Kat Supperclub which is always a good spot to go.
