Choosing the Best Workout (and Yoga Poses) Based on Astrology/ Zodiac Signs

How do you choose a workout program? There are many different approaches to this issue. One of the most unique solutions is to consider your astrological sign and to choose a workout routine that is based on what this sign says that your body strengths are. If you are interested in trying out this approach to choosing a workout, here are some tips for each sign:

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

·      Find a team sport. You’re a natural leader and tend to be competitive so heading up team sports is a great choice for you.

·      Go for short and intense workouts. You like to start things but don’t love to finish them so short workouts work out best for you.

·      Build muscle. Muscles are one area of the body associated with this sign so a workout that builds muscle is a good choice.

·      Resting yoga poses are beneficial. You’re always on the go. Adding a few resting yoga poses to the end of your workout routine will help build the mind-body connection that is such a great fitness benefit.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

·      Choose a class where you can do individualized workouts. You are social but you also like to do things on your own. A yoga class or similar workout option will give you the best of both worlds.

·      Get outside. You tend to enjoy nature so also look for activities that let you get out and about outside. You need to have fun while working out so try new things like sailing or jogging in a scenic area.

·      Take your iPod. Music is a great joy for you so add it to your workout routine

·      Do neck stretches. This sign is associated with the neck and throat. Add some neck stretches to your morning.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

·      Choose a varied workout routine. You hate monotony so why would you choose a fitness routine that was the same all of the time?

·      Select sociable sports. You are gregarious and will enjoy fitness that includes other people. Having a workout partner is a terrific asset to you.

·      Build your upper body. This sign is associated with the shoulders so muscle-building here is a great choice.

·      Do intense yoga. You can greatly benefit from the mind-body connection of yoga but a slower form of yoga would be tough on your short attention span.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

·      Get in the water. You love the water so find a sport that lets you be near it whether that’s swimming, diving or kayaking.

·      Choose a routine with limitless opportunity for growth. You are great at committing to a specific sport but you need to see improvement so find a sport that will let you continuing reaching greater and greater levels of fitness.

·      Crunch those abs. This sign is associated with the digestive system so ab exercises and core exercises are a great choice.

·      Practice bridge pose in yoga. This sign is also associated with the chest and heart so yoga poses that focus on opening up the heart area are a good addition to your workout.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

·      Be the star of the show. You really enjoy forms of exercise where you can show off. Anything that you’re naturally good at is great but in particular choose something that has a partner or audience who can be impressed with you. Couples dancing or break dancing would be good examples.

·      Take classes with mirrors. Admit it; you love to preen. Take dance classes and other classes that are designed to let you see yourself working out.

·      Be twisted. Your sign is associated with the spine so choose a workout routine that involves twists and bends. Aerobic exercise, yoga and pilates are good choices but simply adding these stretches to the start or end of another workout would be good too.

·      Try funny yoga. There’s a silly yoga posed named just after you, lion. Laughter yoga and poses like seal are also great for you because they offer a release of tension.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

·      Choose a full body workout. You have a lot of energy; channel it into a workout that targets the whole body rather than specific parts of the body.

·      Get outside. You enjoy working out in nature a lot more than in a gym or studio so choose a form of exercise that allows for that.

·      Design a unique routine. You really enjoy being creative so it’s worth it to design a creative workout that is unique for you.

·      Find an outdoor yoga class. You will benefit emotionally and physically from this workout.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

·      Think upscale. You like luxury so go for it when choosing a workout routine. Fancy fitness options like gymnastics or figure skating should appeal to you. Upscale fitness clubs are another option.

·      Limit bodybuilding. You don’t need the physical stress of this form of exercise. Choose low-impact activities.

·      Choose a workout routine that allows for a partner. You probably need help staying motivated. Choose a workout that works well with a partner. Make sure the partner you choose can keep you on task.

·      Protect your lower back. This sign is associated with that part of the body so protect it. Yoga poses that support that lower back are a good choice. Partnered yoga poses are ideal for you.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

·      Be competitive. This is your natural state so choose a sport that allows you to exercise it. It doesn’t have to be a team sport, though; something like a triathlon where you’re competing against others on your own is a good choice.

·      Look for intensity. No slow workout is going to work for you. Find something that’s intense and active. Cardio is great for you.

·      Find a workout that you enjoy. More than any other sign in the zodiac, you will succeed best if you find a form of fitness that you can get truly passionate about.

·      Look into power yoga or Bikram yoga. You need strong, active forms of this typically gentle sport.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

·      Get outside. You need to be outdoors when working out. Don’t limit yourself to what’s available at the local gym.

·      Focus on your legs. This sign is associated with the hips and thighs. Choose workout options like bicycling that focus on these areas.

·      Do something fun. You love to have fun. Choose a fun sport like skiing.

·      Yoga for the hips. Look for a yoga teacher who offers a lot of hip-opening poses. You may want to add pilates into your yoga routine to make it more interesting for you.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

·      Choose an endurance sport. You like to hang in there for a long haul and you don’t typically need to see immediate results. A workout based on endurance is great for you.

·      Challenge yourself. You don’t want to do anything that’s too easy for you or you’re going to get bored. Choose a challenging workout.

·      Keep it low impact. This sign is associated with the joints so you want to avoid high-impact activities that may harm them.

·      Find a highly-routine yoga class rather than a varied one. You’ll stick with it and be glad when you see gradual improvements.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

·      Choose something freeing. The last thing that you want is a routine that restricts you. Choose a workout that embraces freedom like dancing or extreme sports.

·      Be varied in what you do. Any regimented routine will really kill your plans to work out.

·      Exercise those legs. This sign is associated with the calves so fitness that focuses on the legs will be a good choice for you.

·      Try the newest forms of yoga. You’re a great trendsetter. Check out yogalates (a yoga/pilates combo), hiking yoga and other odd new forms of this activity.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

·      Focus on the mind-body connection. This is more important to your workout than it is for other signs. Choose exercise that offers you the chance to explore yourself.

·      Play in the water. You do well in the water so sports that are based in the water are a very good choice for you.

·      Avoid workout options that are tough on your feet. This is the part of the body that your sign is associated with so protect it.

·      Use yoga to ground yourself. Slower forms of yoga like Iyengar or Hatha work well for you.

Never thought of selecting Yoga that way. I don't really know how to reconcile my practice of Yoga and its philosophy since I understand its always about balance and following a middle way rather than favour style or poses. But I think its a cool approach!

BTW I'm a typical Sagittarius but of course I don't believe in it :-p
