Missoni Crochet Dress Makes a Statement

Missoni is a high end fashion brand that is best known for its terrific knitwear. However knitting isn’t the only fiber art that can be used to create beautiful clothing. Crochet is increasingly popular as a means of making stunning clothes. Missoni hasn’t neglected this fact. In fact, they have numerous crochet items that are stunning in their beauty. They also do some neat work combining crochet and knitting in single pieces to show off the best features of both. If you have ever thought about getting a designer crochet item then you really should think about checking out Missoni!

Missoni Crochet Dress is a Top Choice

Missoni makes several types of clothing items in crochet. However, the most impressive item in any Missoni line is always the Missoni crochet dress. What I love about this brand is that they make many different silhouettes and styles of crochet dresses. They really stretch the imagination and provide super cool clothing options for women who want to get a crochet dress that is not a cookie cutter design.

Playing with Colors and Patterns

The thing that makes the Missoni brand stand out is their great use of color and patterns. They make some really bold color choices and choose very unique color combinations. They play around a lot with patterning in each piece to create very visual, textural, attention-getting items. Most of the crochet that you see in stores today is single color crochet so it is definitely refreshing to have an option that is rich in both color and pattern. Dare to be different with a Missoni crochet dress!

Classic Flowing Shape

When it comes to the Missoni crochet dress I tend to be most drawn to the designs that have a classic flowing shape that you would expect to see from a 1970’s inspired dress. I love the way that the crochet of today celebrates the best of that era in a fashion forward way. Two examples of Missoni crochet dresses that fall into this category are the bead-embellished crochet-knit gown and the brand’s crochet-knit halterneck maxi dress.

More Modern Shape for Missoni Dress

The flowing shape of a crochet dress might be what works best for me but that doesn’t mean that it’s right for everyone. And I will be the first to admit that I am inspired and attracted to some of the Missoni crochet dresses that have a more structural or modern shape to them. Examples of Missoni crochet dresses that fall into this category include the paneled silk-georgette and crochet-knit dress, the Missoni belted crochet-knit dress, the Missoni Mare Portland crochet-knit hooded dress and the brand’s crochet-knit cape dress.

Snug and Cozy Crochet Dresses

One of the things that Missoni does really is creates form-fitting crochet dresses that hug the body in all of the right places so that the effect is flattering and sexy without being too raunchy. Some of the great examples of Missoni crochet dresses that fall into the snug and cozy category are the crocheted tulle tunic dress, the Ardesa crochet-knit maxi dress (one of my favorites in terms of playing with patterns on a more neutral color palette), the gorgeous Antigua metallic crochet-knit strapless dress, the Labrinto crochet-knit mini dress and the basic Missoni crochet-knit dress.

Missoni Crochet Kaftan

Missoni has taken a liking to the kaftan recently. They’ve turned the Persian inspired piece on its head and created highly wearable dress items for women. Stand out examples of this item include the paneled crochet-knit maxi kaftan, the Granada crochet-knit maxi kaftan and the beautiful Burano crochet-knit kaftan. The kaftan is great because it can be worn as a dress or as a loose top depending on whether you choose a maxi or mini version of the item.

Cardigans and Coats for Over your Crochet Dress

You can enhance the beauty of your Missoni crochet dress (not that it needs it) by playing around even more with pattern and color and layering a crochet cardigan or jacket over the piece. There are several options to choose from in the Missoni line.  My personal favorite is the Shannon, a long crochet-knit cardigan that surprises the eye with a palette of neon colors. However I also like the classic Missoni crochet-knit coat and the brand’s crocheted wool cardigan, which comes with both long sleeves and short sleeves.

Underneath your Missoni Crochet Dress

Missoni has produced a terrific line of crochet swimsuits that would make a great statement on the beach. You can wear these items underneath a crochet dress and then just pop the dress off and you’ve got a double whammy of crochet wonder. Crochet swimwear is hot right now but it’s also timeless and will look great in seasons to come. Missoni has one piece as well as two piece crochet swimsuits.

Alternatives to the Missoni Crochet Dress

The Missoni crochet dress is a great item that any woman can wear. Just find the shape that works for you and select a pattern that perfectly represents your personality and style. However, the brand does also make some other really cool, unique crochet pieces that you could choose instead of a Missoni crochet dress if you wanted to be really bold. Items that fall into this category of Missoni clothing include their color block crocheted mesh skirt, their Balaton zigzag crochet-knit playsuit, their zigzag crochet knit pants, their crocheted cotton-blend halterneck jumpsuit, the Missoni crocheted shorts and their boxy crochet knit top. This is a brand you can really go wild with if you want to!

Oh my gosh- this Hub totally reminded me of a white swimsuit my grandmother crocheted in the 1930s!! What a comeback.

I love Missoni, a classic super chic that never goes out of style very expensive too, I had my mother in law crochet a cardigan for me but I wish I could have a Missoni bathing suit.

Thank you for a great post. I saw the exhibition about Missoni in London a couple of years ago, and they had a real time video of one of their bespoke 'knitting' machines. I was struck by how long it takes to produce the fabric - nothing like as fast as a standard industrial knitting machine. http://knitpurlandstitch.wordpress.com/2009/08/27/
