She has gained a lot of attention since she started running for president and the rest of the world is paying attention to see what is going to happen with the presidential race. I agree with Steve. Madonna is definatly one of the most famous, arguably even the most famous woman in the world, especially at the peak of her fame. Everyone knows who she is, globally. You say her name, and people automatically know who your talking about. Everybody knows her songs all over the world.

Queen Elizabeth is obviously the world's most famous woman. I was in China in April 2011 and even there people were talking about the Royal wedding and the Queen. I'd say it would be difficult to find anyone anywhere who wouldn't recognise the Queen in a photo. Her image is so distinct - unique, in fact - that I can't see how any other celebrity would come close. And her face even appears on banknotes, coins and stamps throughout the Commonwealth. Add to that the fact that she's been Queen for 60 years and has visited almost every country in the world. She's definitely the most famous woman in the world.
